One of my favorite wellness ingredients to have on hand is dried elderberry. You can make a tea or a syrup. It’s great for reducing the symptoms of cold and flu, and some studies show it reduces the length of illness by several days.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup of dried organic elderberries
- 3 cups filtered water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 Tablespoon fresh, finely chopped ginger
- Peel of one organic orange
- 1 cup raw honey
Directions:
Place all except honey in a sauce pan over a medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 45 minutes. Remove from the heat. Cover and let cool. Drain through a fine sieve strainer into a bowl. Push against the ingredients with a spoon to release any remaining “juice.”
Stir in raw honey until mixed through. Store in a glass jar in your refrigerator. It should be good for at least a month.
Can you use fresh or frozen berries in this recipe?
Hi Lynn, yes you can use fresh or frozen! I use 2 cups of fresh in place of the 1/2 cup of dried. Do use only the dark blue elderberrys, not the red ones. Ejoyy!
