One of my favorite wellness ingredients to have on hand is dried elderberry. You can make a tea or a syrup. It’s great for reducing the symptoms of cold and flu, and some studies show it reduces the length of illness by several days.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of dried organic elderberries
  • 3 cups filtered water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh, finely chopped ginger
  • Peel of one organic orange
  • 1 cup raw honey

Directions:

Place all except honey in a sauce pan over a medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 45 minutes. Remove from the heat. Cover and let cool. Drain through a fine sieve strainer into a bowl. Push against the ingredients with a spoon to release any remaining “juice.”

Stir in raw honey until mixed through. Store in a glass jar in your refrigerator. It should be good for at least a month.
